Installation & first steps

Use eShell for remote SSH work and BranchTerm for local development terminals. They run independently and keep separate configuration directories.

Extract and launch

The current target is Windows 11 x64. Extract the entire preview package supplied by the maintainer and run eshell.exe or branchterm.exe. Normal use does not require --ssh-probe.

Keep the runtime files and notices together. BranchTerm uses the same layout with branchterm.exe. Choose a permanent folder, such as D:\Apps\eShell, before pinning the app to the taskbar.

Clean-machine startup, sustained use and compatibility across server configurations are still being validated. See version & limitations.

Your first SSH connection

  1. Select + Session and enter a name, host, port and username.
  2. Save the profile, then select it under Groups or Recents.
  3. Verify the server fingerprint before authenticating with a password or private key.
  4. Wait for the remote terminal to open.

Use the port the server actually listens on; 22 is only the default. Continue with connections & authentication.

Your first local terminal

  1. Select + Project, name it and choose a directory, or create a standalone session.
  2. Create a session with PowerShell, Git Bash or a custom shell.
  3. Confirm the working directory and start the terminal.
  4. Open the file sidebar to browse project files.

Continue with projects & local terminals.

Change the interface language

Open Settings → Appearance and choose Chinese or English. Names, paths and terminal output are not translated.
