Files & previews

Open the Files sidebar

Use the right-sidebar icon at the top of the window. Project sessions use the project directory; standalone sessions use their starting directory or the default. Current builds update the root when you switch projects. It does not follow shell cd commands. Refresh to reread changed files.

The Files sidebar is local. Use eShell SFTP for remote files.
BranchTerm Files browses local projects; eShell SFTP transfers remote files

File-tree controls

ActionResult
Click a fileSelect it and focus the tree
Click a folder / Left and Right arrowsExpand, collapse, enter children or return to a parent
Up and Down arrowsSelect adjacent entries
SpaceOpen a read-only preview
EnterOpen with the system default app
Double-click a fileOpen its containing folder in Explorer
Double-click a folderOpen the folder in Explorer
Copy path from the context menuCopy its local path

Space works only when the file tree has focus, not while another control or modal owns keyboard input.

Tabs and enlarged previews

Newly opened files appear at the left of the preview tabs. Reopening an existing file moves it left and activates it; clicking an existing tab simply switches to it.

Use the enlarge icon beside the preview path for a larger view. Escape, restore or the backdrop returns to the sidebar. Close individual tabs with ×, or use Close all on a preview tab while leaving terminals intact.

Preview-tab count has no fixed cap. Only the 8 most recently used contents stay cached; revisiting an evicted tab rereads its file. The cache size is not a tab limit.

Supported content

TypeBehavior
Text and codeRead-only, line numbers, first 256 KiB
PNG / JPEG / BMPScaled down, never up; ≤16 MiB, decoded sides ≤4096 pixels
PDFNative Windows page rendering with navigation; longest page side ≤1600 pixels
Word .docxText and table separators, without full layout fidelity
PowerPoint .pptxSlide text, without images or animation
Excel .xlsx/.xls/.xlsbFirst 200 rows × 32 columns per sheet; saved formula values, no recalculation

Document files are limited to 64 MiB, with additional Office text/page/sheet protections. Convert old .doc/.ppt to newer formats. Open SVG, animation and other binaries with the default app using Enter.

Search files

Use the Files search icon and enter filename or relative-path keywords. Search includes unexpanded subdirectories and hidden files, without following directory links. Selecting a result expands the matching tree path and opens a preview.

Scanning runs in the background. Closing search cancels it; unreadable directories are skipped with a notice. Directory entries and results have no fixed numerical cap, but available scale depends on memory and filesystem resources.
